I’m not sure if many people know this about me, but I’m a huge paper/design/typography nerd. I don’t know how quite to define this area that makes my heart beat a little faster but perhaps I can describe it this way:

I love typography.
I am a paper snob.
I love great design.
I love photography.
I love composition. And white space. And lines.

A wedding to remember

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Easy ways to make kids happy|Photography

Weddings are happy things, aren’t they? A longtime friend of ours got married on Saturday, in a shady park in Oxford Mills near Kemptville. I took a few pics to commemorate the day. How could I not? … and then I handed the camera over to the kids, who gave our day a whole new perspective. […]

I’m doing this because our “extra day” only comes around only once every four years and we know a lot of people who would have liked to have One Extra Day. So… today of all days it’s important to be mindful and enjoy the things that we have. Photos will be posted every once in […]

Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Monday! These are the results of my 10Photos Photo Project. It documents Monday October 10 2011, one photo and one hour at a time. You can read more about it here. Warning! This is a long and rambly and deeply introspective post. It’s all over the place and will touch upon several different largish topics. Subtitle: Let’s Remember That Blogging Is Therapy Sometimes, when I’m talking about blogging, one of the things people ask me about is how I know what to write about. Where do […]

I’ve been mulling over the photography side of my life and am slowly figuring things out. I hate to be so cryptic, but it’s all still percolating and I’m not quite ready to write about it in full. Let’s just say it’s been something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. Related: it was Picture […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (15) and Sarah (13). I am the editor of the Kitchissippi Times and a regular contributor to MediaSmarts.ca. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here. Thank you for visiting!

The #dailylunches project – 1000 lunches and counting

Every day I eat lunch and take a picture. Here's the latest:

Created with flickr badge.

Click the photo for details: what it is, where I ate it (if it's worth a mention!) and how to cook it (if there happens to be a recipe). You can also read more about this project right here.

  • My latest post on the MediaSmarts website is up, and it's about family social media accounts. (Yes! It's a thing! And I think it's pretty neat.) Is this something you do as a family? I'd love it if you left your two cents on the topic.
