I have a handful of posts left to write about on the renovation front, mostly because (a) there are a whole bunch of things that I know would make good blogging fodder and (b) I like to give credit where credit is due. This is a short version of what’s on our to-do list: We’re […]

Reno post #49: fun with bedroom blinds!

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Home/reno

This is a temporary placeholder for a post I am about to write about our adventure with Home Depot’s window coverings department. I will say this: we haven’t had window coverings on our big bedroom windows (pictured here) since we moved in, and it now looks like we won’t have them for awhile yet. Update […]

Once upon a time I was interviewing a couple for a local magazine who designed their own home. I was getting the grand tour and asking lots of questions. The tour eventually came around to their home office. It was situated in a great place, right by the front door as you stepped into the […]

Reno post #47: The quest to find dinner dishes

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Home/reno

I’m quite particular about dinner dishes. Some might even accuse me of being PICKY, although I try not to see it that way. The last set of dinner dishes we bought were Debbie Travis dishes from Canadian Tire. (I wrote about them here in fact. That’s the great thing about blogs… Every Single Story can […]

Reno post #46 – slow moving

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Home/reno

I feel like I’m stuck in the kind of nightmare in which I’m being chased by a heard of the Undead who are clamouring for my caffeine-addled brain. I’m trying to run, but instead of kicking up dust I find myself struggling in a slo-mo kind of hell.

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here. Thank you for visiting!
