Sherri, Donna, Nicole and Marisa (a.k.a. The Team) are coming over at 11:30 this morning with the new area rug, the shelves, and the other accessories we bought during our marathon shopping trip to Linens & Things. Woo hoo!

A full progress report to come later. :)

Tuesday

Saturday I acquired a cool piece of artwork by a local artist named Kathrin von Dehn. Lookit this. The canvas measures about 3 ft x 3 ft. I’m not sure if the photo does the colour any justice. It’s bright and cheery and I love it.

It’s a hill, can you tell? ;)

Mother’s Day was Sunday. I can confidently say that this was probably the Best Mother’s Day Ever. It began with breakfast in bed: smoked salmon and cream cheese on fresh bagel, along with moderately hot coffee, juice and the Sunday paper. It was brought at 8:00 a.m by three smiling faces. I was lying there in bed waiting for it. I heard lots of stomping and clanging, and as they went up the stairs I could hear Emma singing:

“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, you smell like a monkey and look like one too.”
“It’s not her birthday,” corrected Mark sternly. “Besides, it’s not nice to tell someone they smell.”

I received lots of lovely artwork and wonderful gifts from Lush, including my new favourite shower item called Buffy the Backside Slayer. I will let you draw your own conclusions about that one.

We went to ArtsPark to check out the local scenery and opening of the Parkdale market, and later we drove to Mark’s parents to hang out and watch the barracuda vacuum the pool. It’s an automatic pool cleaner that moves slowly under the water, hoovering all the gunk from the bottom of the pool. With drink in hand, watching it suck up dirt was far more interesting than watching Sunday golf. Really.

We’ve been blessed with good weather, and it just keeps on coming. I just can’t get enough.

The living room update
Tiles for the faux fireplace are being installed today. The electrical comes tomorrow. There is a little bit of painting still to be done too. But it’s all supposed to come together this week. (!)

I’m relieved that it’s almost over. Mind you, it’s been fun, great, wonderful… but also a little stressful. And tiring. Living in a disorganized state of chaos is wearing thin. My house is a mess. I’m not just talking out the living room (at the moment there is actually very little in the living room) but the rest of the house has somehow been ignored.

I’m stepping around piles of stuff all the time. Some these piles consist of items relocated from the living room, other piles are of my own making, but still… when the living room is done I’ll be able to tackle the rest.

As I said, I’ll be glad when it’s all done. But this sense of relief is probably nothing compared to the feeling of completion people get after big renos, where walls are torn down and major structural changes are made as well as a million irreversible decisions.

Do you want the outlet here or there? What size window? Where should the door go?

In reality it’s been quite painless. So I’ll quit whining now.

I agree – it’s so nice! I love it! And deceptive – could be looks like it might fit in with the greener/lighter living colour theme, but also has a hint of red, to go along with cranberry colour theme :)

We’ve had a few friends build houses now and it seems like such a huuge undertaking. I can’t fathom making all those decisions, and you have to make them so quickly – what tiles do you want on your backsplash? what faucets? which colour of builder beige paint?
