Passing along a memo

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

Project Porchlight Ottawa has been lighting up neighbourhoods across Ottawa. Over the past six weeks, over 100,000 CFL bulbs have been distributed door-to-door. We’re half way to our goal!

Come, celebrate this milestone with us! Join us in front of the Giant Tiger in the By-Ward Market on October 28th from noon to 2 p.m. There will be prizes and pumpkin decorating, a lively band, Hallowe’en activities for the kids, our fabulous electric bikes, and the mobile porch!

Why are we celebrating?

100,000 bulbs changed means:

* 12,000,000 lbs. of coal that won’t be burned to produce power. Cleaner air!

* 50,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas that won’t be pumped into the air

* $5 million of energy savings that can be used for other things in our communities

But, more importantly, we’re celebrating an awesome community effort, and our great volunteers from all across Ottawa who have proven over and over that we can all take action to save energy and protect the environment. It’s as easy as changing a light bulb!

Please come and meet us and other volunteers. Find out about our exciting plans for the rest of Ottawa and beyond!

Please let us know if you can make it. See you at the party!

October 28 (Saturday) from noon to  2 p.m. in front of Giant Tiger at the corner of George St. and Dalhousie Ave.

We are almost completely CFL in our place now. I was too cheap to change the new ones that came with our house. But, as they burn out we change them to CFL.

Our free one went in just the right place, on the ‘porch’ or adjacent to it. We put it in our automatic, can’t turn the sucker off, dark driveway if we don’t have it on light standard on the lawn. I figured if we are supposed to have it on all the time, it should be energy efficient.

Hey, thanks for the link! Glad to get in front of your readers for a minute or two.

Will we see you down at GT on Saturday? Come around and say hi – we’ll make sure to get a bulb into your pocket.
