Collections

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Oh! Things!

I have a thing for wind-up toys. It started with plastic ones and graduated to tin wind-ups with their little keys.

Here’s what we have at the moment:

Our collection of wind-up toys

I like this little collection. It’s hands-on. I often find it rearranged, and I like that. The girls sometimes take them all off the shelf, spread them on the floor and try to keep them wound up at the same time. I collect a lot of things, but this one is definitely the most fun.

Sometimes I wonder … if it’s not fun, used or seen everyday, is it worth collecting? What are you collecting? [click photos to embiggen]

Love your shadow box! The toys are sweet. I’m doing the opposite of collecting right now-I’m trying to get rid of stuff. I can’t resist sea glass, rocks, and shells we find along the lake shore, though…

John collects coffee memorablilia. Anything that has to do with coffee, not just mugs, but advertising etc… but no Starbucks, no Timmy’s – vintage stuff mostly. I’ll have to take a photo.

He collects A LOT of stuff, but this is his current one. I suspect you and he would have a field day in our basement.

I just started one, mostly to show him I’m interested. I’ve never been a collector, just a packrat. LOL I’m collecting soccer items. Not equipment or the like, but items. I have a soccer ball nightlight, lamp, necklaces, hair clips … I found a whole bunch from when I was in high school, like magnets and key chains, so that was what reminded me to start again.

Me again. What are those little ones that look kind of like two loaves of bread? Or sushi?

Your collection looks great Andrea. We have a couple of those Ikea display boxes too. Perfect for tiny items. You got me thinking and I checked around my house. My first thought was armadillos (30+), … then birds especially owls, other animals (sheep, lions, elephants, bears etc), fake fruit, jugs especially creamers, bowls, snowmen, little Christmas trees, little buildings, shells/stones/driftwood/ seedpods, little boxes, cooking utensils and cookbooks, books relating to Scotland, lots of other book themes too, postcards … and they all collect dust. Perhaps dust is my biggest collection. Perhaps like Chantal I’m more a packrat than collector. I do enjoy my stuff.

I also been pushed into collecting Roosters. I bought one and the rest were given.
