Am I the only one who is bored by this whole concept? Personally, I’ll take quality over quantity.

I think that sometimes (often for me) it takes a large quantity to really get quality….
I don’t have many readers and really use my blog as more of a mental sounding board. A way to just get the ideas out of my head and onto paper, so to speak. So I’m not overly worried about boring anyone else with my ramblings. But, they say that it takes a month to “train” ourselves, to develop a new habit or break an old one. For me, this serves as a way to do this.
Viva la difference, right? :)

I totally get your point and I am all about la difference. For the blogger, this exercise is a challenge. And it’s also about self-improvement, which is fine too. But still… I wish it could be done without all the additional hand-wringing!
It begs the question, why not just post 30 days in a row without a big announcement?

Hmm, hard to answer this without sounding defensive, but I’d say I do it for the challenge, for the fun, and for the community. (You know I’m an inveterate joiner.) It’s really not so different than the challenges and fun you host here, right? Everybody working on a similar goal? That’s why I’ve done it these last couple of years, anyway.

Oh, and I meant to add, why does it have to be quality over quantity? Can’t one aspire to both?

No need to be defensive, really. This is my own POV and I certainly don’t mean to offend.
Perhaps i’m in the minority on this.
It’s your blog space (and by “you”, I don’t just mean you, Dani, because your comment is the last one I see) but people are free to write whatever they want, how often they want. You certainly can have quanity AND quality, but it doesn’t happen across the board. I’m sure we can agree on that.
As I said before, if it’s really about the challenge, why not post everyday and then post about your accomplishment – complete with pretty graphic – when you’re done? And why wait until Nov 1 to do it?
What I’m tired of is the “NaBloPoMo is so hard” and “I’m not really a writer but here I go” or “I need to write something for NaBloPoMo so I’m going to tell you how badly I need to clip my fingernails” kind of post.
If you want to write, just write, and stop talking about it already.

I also just wanted to add, that although I am not participating, I know that I will be excited to go to work every day this month to read what all those wonderful people in blogland have to say. Even if it’s short and sweet.

Ooh, I had similar thoughts, although mostly in relation to myself. I had originally planned on joining in, but on closer inspection began to wonder if I could actually post something worthwhile everyday for 30 days. I don’t really feel like filling up people’s readers (should I be so bold to assume I’m in people’s readers) with meaningless crap. In the end, I decided to opt out.
All the power, though, to those that can play along, achieve the goal, *and* write something meaningful.
