I think I have a couple budding poets over here

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Multimedia experiments

Back in November, Emma wrote a special Remembrance Day poem. Not only did it get published in the class newsletter (!), but she got to read it to the entire school (!!).

The poem she read out was pretty long – maybe 20 lines –  and was shortened for the newsletter. Emma was her own editor. (Her teacher asked her to pick her five favourite lines.)

So here is her abbreviated version:

Peace Poem

Peace is a celebration that is always with you.
Peace is love in the air.
Peace is what the earth needs even if we are mean or cruel.
Peace is freedom in life.
No matter where you are or who you are, you always have peace in your heart.

Little Sarah didn’t want to be shown up by her poetry-writing big sister. So here is her version of a peace poem. I’m staying true to her spelling. :)

Freedom

Freedom is wen you Tacke off your sweater.
Freedom is wen you are runing over The Hills.
Freedom is wen a glass of water gose down your Throught.
Freedom is wen you get a home run.

If that’s not cute enough, here is Sarah reading it:

Kids are natrual poets, aren’t they? At what point do we stop being so poetic?

Speaking of poems/kids/readings/podcasts, you should check out a local blog called Just One More Book. If you’re looking for a good book to pick up for your children, this might be a good place to start.

Andrea, that is pretty amazing…your girls are both such bright people, bright in every sense of the word. At what point do we stop doing alot of things that kids seem to do so well…..
