… get back into bed with a book and stay there. All.DAY.

… read a book, have a nap, eat cereal (at all three meals), and catch up on phone calls to friends that have waited too long to hear from me.

I’m alternating between wanting to go back to bed, and sleep all day (because I slept well last night, and feel OK today) and wanting to say I’d clean the heck out of my house, or conquer Mt. Laundry, or even repaint the bathroom (which I am waiting on the contractors to replace the goram wall on, as studs are just harder to paint….)

… Suddenly a glass of wine, and a blanket and a silly movie sounds good.

Sadly I would have to say, clean my house. UGH but it has to be done.

If the house was already clean then I would go downtown, have a nice lunch in a cafe and browse the National Gallery. Then come home and have a nap.

It’s just as I expected. The only people who are more sleep-deprieved than parents are long-haul truckers…. except I have a feeling that there’s legislation in place that forces truckers to slow down and take naps.

Hmm.

I guess it’s ‘cos I’m one of the few non-parent types here that I’m going to break the mold.

I would pick up my electric guitar, plug into my friend’s very nice amp, and play the day away, maybe even work on a song.

– Go back to sleep a little bit
– go to the thrift store
– have lunch somewhere in the neighborhood
– maybe get a friend to go see a movie with me, or possibly go to Home Depot and check out kitchen stuff for _as long as I want_ with _no one bothering me_…

Sleep in, get started on my book club selection for next month, clean the house a bit (just enough to assuage the guilt) and then head out to my favourite local nursery for a leisurely browse. I have spring fever BIG TIME!

Head to the Gatineaus for a late season ski or snowshoe (or hike given the weather today), have coffee at the cafe in Chelsea and pick up a pot pie and oatmeal raisin cookies at the bakery for supper. Then nap.

Go shopping for new spring clothes in the morning, have a nice lunch with a good book at a cafe, spend the afternoon making something (baking, scrapbooking, jewellery… any one of my hobbies which have been neglected lately). There would probably be a big mug of tea and a nap in there somewhere, too!

I think I would take advantage of being without distractions to gather up all the paperwork for our accountant. Then I would park my butt on the couch with my knitting and the Planet Earth dvd’s.

I would work on all my “to-do’s” that need to happen before the babies are born. Finally decide what cloth diapers I am going to buy and buy some, go shopping for my cousin’s wedding shower, and I would really like to go see a movie in an actual theater, maybe to see Horton Hears a Who.

I would grab a coffee; take the dog for a long walk in the woods; make a nice breakfast of a toasted english muffin with egg, cheese and ham; run in the rain (very refreshing); long hot shower, watch a movie while ironing; another walk around the block with the dog, heat up some spicy jambalaya for dinner; check my email, tie a few flies (for flyfishing); and watch Eckart and Oprah to finish off the night.
And that is what I did with my day off today.

I USED that card today!!!! Really! I went out for a long lunch with three friends and never looked at my watch once, ran a couple of errands solo, and picked up Mouse from school without rushing.

I’d be on that nap train. I would also go to a quiet, cozy cafe, get some truly yummy hot chocolate, watch people, and maybe write a little. I would also play the piano and/or sing for a good part of the afternoon because that time is hard to come by right now. One thing I would probably NOT do, if I could help it: go on the computer. :) Oh, and I’d go get a scrump-diddly-itious dinner somewhere nice so I didn’t have to cook or clean dishes.

Mark: No I didn’t nap…and I didn’t really use the ENTIRE card, just maybe 1/3 of it ya know? If I did use the entire card I still doubt I would nap…but I would get into my cozy bed and read or surf the web or something….ohh do some paper crafting…..gosh I think I need to make a list….

I’m revising mine. After all, today is a new day!

I would:

– take the bus downtown
– wander around the art gallery
– have a nice lunch
– take some photos
– get my hair cut for Spring
– buy myself a necklace or something purty just for me

I’m another non-mom who’s crashing but I still appreciate a day off!!
1) Cuddle with our pooch and sleep in.
2) Meet my sister for lunch, a trip to the bookstore, and a walk with our dogs.
3) Take turns reading on the couch and sewing all afternoon.
4) Have husband grab some Thai food from Sen and pig out on the best crab rangoons ever.
5) Cuddle with husband on couch and watch a movie.

Throw on my hiking boots, point them in the direction of the hills, and walk. Once I’ve found The Spot, sit down, pull out the socks I’m knitting, and finish them. Return home. Hug kids.

4) Spa Nordik, a good book and a glass of wine
5) hugs and snuggles with WeeG before the Webgeek puts him to bed

– wake up to a cappuccino that was made for me (it’s always better that way), in bed, with my cat and my beau snuggled beside me
– watch CityTV’s Fashion Friday, in bed
– go for a jog
– go to brunch with my beau
– call a couple friends who are enjoying the day off too (it’s National Day-Off Day in my fantasy)
– have a nap
– wake up to an RMT who has come to give us each 1.5 hour long massages
– dinner at one of Ottawa’s chef-owned restos
– post-meal, sip champagne on the couch, feet in beau’s hands, talking
– in bed by 10
