This is how the domestic plans get derailed

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

This morning, I set out to wash our sheets and hang them on the line to dry.

– I ran out of detergent.
– I went to buy some detergent … it’s only available at Rainbow Foods, a local health food store.)
– While I’m there I pick up some sunscreen
– And hey, there’s a SallyAnn across the street. I drop in for a quick browse.
– I sneak into the fitting room with more than the maximum three items.
– two t-shirts fit the bill, as does one pretty skirt which is a size 12 and needs some taking in. Who will do that? I do not know.
– I pick out some books for Emma and Sarah.
– I arrive home.
– Make lunch and continue with laundry.
– Before I can hang it out on the line I need to (a) wipe it clean and (b) cut some BRANCHES from an imposing evergreen.
– the pruning shears are too small for one of the branches. I consider finding the saw.

No, the laundry isn’t done yet.

And now it’s almost time to pick the girls up from school. Where do the days go?

I’ve taken a few days off work to go through clutter and stuff. Yesterday was productive, today much less so. I had to take one of our cats to the vet. Reid had never been and so wanted to come along. I got her to daycare at 9:30 and then stopped at the grocery store. Because, of course, I volunteered to bring supper to a friend’s house (since I didn’t have to go to the office). After a bunch of other distractions, I ended up at the Westboro Sally Ann. I thought of you as I picked up a denim skirt and t-shirt. They’re the first non-grocery items I’ve purchased since you wrote your post about 2nd hand shopping. Back home again, I decided the day was shot and had a nap. Maybe tomorrow will be better…

Yes – that’s how my yesterday went. Pick up carpet, then contact lenses, then lampshades. But…wait…what? Goodwill having a surprise Monday madness 50% off sale? (sounds of tires squealing in a peel-out, careening around corner noise and all you can see of me is a trail of dust, with a pair of seafoam blue suede vintage Pro-Keds for $3.50 flying up in the air).
