Mark and I just returned from a lovely couple of nights in Montreal.
Our hotel, for which Mark deserves full props, was the Hotel Nelliganin the heart of the old part of the city. The hotel was fantastic: king sized bed, luxurious linens, giant pillows, jacuzzi tub, big shower… in a setting that was very boutique and non-touristy. It all made me feel rather sophisticated.
Saint-Paul Street is apparently the oldest street in Montreal, a tight squeeze for pedestrians and cars alike, full of history and art and little cafes, totally adorable.
We ate, we drank, we wandered until our feet ached, and came very close to buying an iPod Touch at the Apple store in downtown Montreal. Mark suggested it might make a nice anniversary gift to ourselves. I had my heart set on a nice piece of art to hang on our walls, but was just as tempted by this neat little gadget.
“This is so bloggable,” I said. “You know that this is going to make us look like total geeks, right?” I pointed out.
“We are geeks,” replied Mark, ever so helpfully.
So we debated, wiped away the drool, and walked away. Reality got the better of us. It would have been nice to have a new toy, but we have a chimney to repair, a hole in an exterior wall (!), and lots of interior painting to do, and I’d like to get it done before September.
Anyway, the trip was a nice gift to ourselves. It is good to be home, but I have to say, I’ve realized our bed is woefully inadequate. Our pillows aren’t nearly as cushy as the ones at Hotel Nelligan.
