Summer vacation: last stop before home, Stowe VT

My family loved Stowe. I loved everything about it. This place was far up my alley. I loved the hotel we booked, right on the main strip. I loved the rolling hills and the greenery. I loved the cutie little shops and all the little galleries and original goods. There was a lot to discover in Stowe.

And guess what, there is GOOD COFFEE to be had in Stowe.

And it’s not that far! I was surprised to learn how close it is to Ottawa.

I’m seriously contemplating a return visit. But should we go back in the summer, fall or winter? I imagine all three of those seasons can be pretty spectacular.

While we were there we took the chairlift up for the mountain slide. (Which was a little on the pricey side, but very fun, and I don’t have a single pic of it.)

Sarah and I went up together:

We also rode the gondola up to the top.

The girls were thrilled. You don’t get to visit the clouds every day you know.

Stowe, VT

Guess what? Clouds are cold. It was freezing up there. The bench pictured below is on the very edge of a cliff. Somewhere in there, was a view.

You couldn’t see ten feet ahead of you, that’s how dense the clouds were up there.

There is something about those mountains that is positively enchanting.

It was a worthy last stop on our holiday, don’t you think?

We love Stowe too. We have gone for a week every year for the last 3 years in Jan or Feb to ski, it is turning our to be a great tradition. My almost 6 year old is just getting the hang of it and the 3 year old tried for the first time this year (she mostly ate snow). We have thought about going in the summer sometime but we were not sure if there was enough to do. Did you see the kids’ playground at the elementary school? It is amazing.

OH MY GOD.
You reminded me of something that happened on our trip.

Mark took the girls to the playground you mentioned. They came back to get me about 30 minutes later because they desperately wanted me to see The Best Playground Ever.

Just as we approached the playground a pickup truck pulled right up to next to it, a guy got out and started to unroll some of yellow do-not-cross security tape.

“We were wondering if we could play here,” asked Mark.
“Sorry!” said the guy. “But we’re tearing it down!”

We thought he was going to follow up this statement with a “HA HA! Just Kidding!” but he was totally serious. We walked away, and Sarah burst into tears.

Emma and Sarah have gone down in history as the last kids to play at the Awesome Playground in Stowe. I don’t know a lot about it, other than it was built by the parents and it’s going to be replaced by something new.

And this is probably the last picture ever taken of it!

Sure… we stayed at the Green Mountain Inn. The summer rates were pretty good.

What a beautiful playground. Probably being torn down to be replaced with some kind of plastic structure. Such a shame.
