I can’t believe I’m not butter

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

It feels like I’ve been time-travelling. This week has flown by. I started my lighting course at Algonquin. I have a feeling it’s going to be intense. We’re starting off with still photography (which I am thrilled about) but last night I realized that I can’t plug a sync cord into my D70. Anyone out there have an adaptor I can borrow for a couple of months?

I had a couple tough workouts at the gym this week, biked for groceries for two days running and had a community association meeting which ran late. Yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing a cup of coffee with the oh so lovely BeachMama (!) and her two children which I then followed up with the purchase of a lens that I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I have some writing/photo-related deadlines coming up (a couple of which are for my local paper), a meeting, a birthday party to plan and some volunteering to do. Today.

Right now I’m feeling a little wrung out, oddly charged up at the same time. Or maybe it’s just the coffee.

How can it be Friday already?

I started searching out craft ideas for Mother’s Day. We moms have a soft spot for our children’s artwork. Note To Dads: you’d be smart to exploit this mushiness in time for Mother’s Day. Odds are your children are cranking something out at school this week, but if they’re not, gather some supplies and try something on your own.

I do like this simple bookmark idea. It’s a thoughtful AND practical little gift for the mom who loves to read. Pair it with a new book and you’re good to go.

No time to craft? Saturday May 9 is the premiere edition of Tarts N’ Crafts, formerly known as the Not Your Grandma’s Craftsale. It’s a great opportunity to get something totally unique for that offbeat mom in your life. :)

Even though I’ve been super busy I’ve still managed to maintain my part-time vegan plan. I am happy about that. It’s going really well. I’ve been experimenting with a few new recipes and I found one for wheatberry salad. It is incredibly filling, and good, although I was the only one in my family eating it and it took a lot of chewing.

Here’s what the wheatberries look like, right before cooking:

And here’s the salad:

Recipe here.

Off to the races!

I hope Ginger reads this post, she’s looking for wheatberry recipes! Or was it barley???

I LOVE any homemade Mothers Day gifts…best one ever was given to me a couple of years ago. My husband purchased a large canvas from Micheals (use the 40% off coupon) and had the kids paint it. I have it hanging in our kitchen…love it.

Work hard, finish early and enjoy the weekend! Happy Mothers day.

What a busy week for you! I found that this week totally flew by, too… but I wasn’t nearly as busy as you! Just the usual craziness of working full-time and coming home to 2 very active little boys! ;)

I (We) had a great visit with you, next time I’ll try to make it on a day I can leave the squirms, I mean children, with my Mom.

And I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you were on your way to get a lens, ack, I love lens talk. Wish I had a sync cord adapter, but sadly I don’t.

Looking forward to seeing some of your lighting work.

Amy: it’s this one. Unfortunately I haven’t had much of a chance to use it yet!
