I have always been of the “whichever way it goes on is fine” persuasion, but my husband believes the hanging part should be OVER, not UNDER. GOD FORBID IT’S UNDER. I humour him, since he humours a lot of my idiosyncrasies.

I really do think it should be with the paper hanging over but at this point I’m so happy if someone other than me puts it on that I don’t say much about it as long as it’s ON the roll and not sitting on the counter.

The results are disturbing. I used to think this toilet paper obsession thing was a joke. Clearly it’s VERY important to some folks.

Shouldn’t be against the wall — bathroom walls are very dirty (even when they look clean). This ensures that the toiet paper isn’t wiping bacteria from the wall before it wipes your, er.. ;)

I’m in the ‘front’ camp, but I’ll say one thing for putting it at the back (near the wall): the cat’s (and toddlers) can’t unroll it just by pawing at it. But then, the toddlers figure it out pretty quick either way.

Urgh. That should have been “cats”. Thought it was a bit of dirt on the monitor.

After today I would just be happy if there was toilet paper *in* the bathroom. We have 3 bathrooms. Only 1 had toilet paper.

I say over, my wife says under. The rule in the house is whoever changes the roll gets to decide how to put the new roll on.

I honestly don’t care as long as there IS toilet paper when I need it. Andrea, what the heck started this post anyway?

I don’t mean to prejudice the poll, but I say the paper should go over the roll a.k.a facing you.

Melissa: I have to say, I never considered the dirty wall angle. *shudder*

Betsy Mae: lately it seems i’ve been removing rolls of TP and turning them around so they are facing the correct direction. I can’t just let it be! :)

I used to like it hanging close to the wall, but Hubby insists it goes with the flap closer to the ‘user’ and since I don’t really care that much, I switched to his method, but I have to think about it every time I hang a roll – and yes, it’s often me that hangs the roll even when I didn’t finish the last one.

I say over for sure…and may have been known to change it at other peoples houses. It’s a sickness.

I’ve always put it on coming off “over” rather than “under”. It just looks better to me and it’s easier to get off. (Melissa’s cleanliness factor just confirms it’s a better choice, too.)

Although, I heard – and I don’t have a clue if this has ever been (or could be) tested – that if you put it on to dispense “under” that people use less TP. I think that’s probably bunk, though. ;)

FYI – Squashing the t.p. (as if you sat on it before putting it on the roller) will force people to use less of it because it doesn’t come off the roll so quickly.

The real question isn’t which way to hang it, but when to change it. I would say “when the roll is empty”, but a surprising number of people seem to have a thing about the last 25 sheets on the roll.
