Torontohhh

Posted by andrea tomkins in: travel talk

I had the opportunity to take a trip to Toronto recently. Erica Ehm (a former Much Music Veejay who currently manages a digital empire called the Yummy Mummy Club!) invited me to participate in a panel at a two-day Marketing to Digital Moms conference.

It was a long drive, and it was a bit of a juggle, but I’m very glad I went. Not only did I get to meet some really fabulous people, but I actually walked away with a small storehouse of practical knowledge.

I stayed at the closest and cheapest hotel I could find, the Four Points Sheraton on Lakeshore Blvd. They told me I had a “city view” room. I tell ya, I could have thrown a rock and it would have hit cars on the Gardiner Expressway. City View my foot. Call it what it is, Highway View!

I shouldn’t complain, it was cheap and it was close, less than a 10-minute drive to the conference, which was held at the Old Mill Inn and Spa. It is gorgeous there. I would go back, that is, if I could afford to stay there. Ha. No Highway View here.

This is the only photo I took indoors, during the conference itself. And yes, those are edible QR codes.

After the first day was over I took a turn around the little park near the Old Mill. It was warm, albeit a bit damp, but I was happy to get some fresh air. There was a lovely bridge and I like lovely old bridges:

There was a warning that I might not be alone:

… which reminded me of my own carnivorousness and so I went to find some dinner.

After dinner I walked down the beach, which was relatively contemplative. I encountered a couple freakishly large swans (they can turn on your in a second you know!), and since my footwear was taking a beating I confined myself to the boardwalk. I’m not sorry I did.

I have other photos too (which include some of Giant Swans) but they’re on my other camera and I still need to offload them.

Ah Toronto. I love to visit, but it always feels great to come home again.

Hey, I got married at the Old Mill! It’s lovely.

I’d love to hear a recap of what you learned at the conference…maybe at a meet up?

Edible QR codes! Definitely filing THAT one away for future reference — love it!!

Sounds like fun, when do we get to hear the brain dump of the practical stuff? I enjoyed the few tweets of yours I saw during the event.

These photos are in my neck of the woods! Although the Old Mill is north of me and the photos of the lake just east to where we live, our home not far from there. This is south west Etobicoke, the nicest part of the entire town if you ask me!

And I know which hotel you mean…ha! We joke we could throw rocks at the windows of the hotel each time we pass it on the Gardiner!

Glad you had a nice time.

Java – You should have come by to say hello! :)

Lynn and Dani – There is almost too much to process. I wish I had time to distill it all into something useful, like, say, a blog post!!

Love the edible QR codes (and looks like I’m in good company :).

The Old Mill is beautiful. I’ve only been there once – for my aunt and uncle’s wedding. I was quite young and was very confused when we walked out and saw another bride! I mean, how many people could possibly be getting married on the same day?

I know. Almost but not quite entirely unrelated :)
