Awhile back I was asked to participate in a Celebrity and Media Photo Contest event hosted by Harry Nowell. The participants comprised of a great cross-section of Ottawa media peeps including:
Sandy Sharkey (radio personality)
Stuntman Stu (Majic 100 Radio Host)
Jim Watson (Ottawa Mayor)
David Chernushenko (Ottawa City Councillor)
Peter Simpson (Arts-editor-at-large for The Ottawa Citizen)
Graham Richardson (CTV News Anchor)
Alan Neal (Host of All In A Day, CBC Radio One)
Ian Black (Climatologist, CBC News Ottawa)
Sarah Brown (Ottawa Magazine Editor)
Jane Corbett (Ottawa Magazine Art Director)
Trevor Greenway (reporter – Low Down to Hull and Back News)
Peter Tilley (Executive Director – Ottawa Food Bank)
It was deemed that there was room for two other participants and Ottawa folks were asked to “apply” for a spot. Longtime Fishbowl reader Allison B. (who teaches a digital marketing class at Carleton and got her students involved) squeaked in there too, as did Dani Donders! It was a fantastic idea, because this meant that word got out to an even wider audience. (Edited to add: I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Allison’s class set up a special Facebook page to facilitate the public side of this event! Yay Allison!)
The challenge was this: to shoot a photo that answers the question “Why I love Ottawa/Gatineau.” We had about a week to snap and submit it. The photos were then all printed and mounted (by Artopix, DaveAndrews.ca and Patrick Gordon Framing) and TODAY is the day the public is invited to go, look, shop, and bid. It’ll be a great event, and funds raised go to one of my favourite charities, the Ottawa Food Bank.
I haven’t seen any of the photos, but I can’t wait to see what Ottawa celebs shot. I’m particularly interested in Alan’s, Ian’s, and Sarah and Jane’s shots. I heard that Graham submitted something pretty interesting too. And Jim Watson! At the launch event he confessed to not even owning a camera, so I’m dying to see what he turned in.
Sounds like a fun event right? That’s why you should check it out. Get the deets right here. The event takes pace from noon to 8:00 TODAY. I hope to see you there! Make sure you find me and say hello, ok?
