Ottawa giveaway alert: $100 worth of spending money from terra20!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Fishbowl patrons|Giveaways and product reviews|Ottawa

But first, here’s something else that’s green that I like. :)

Personal lawn

I first wrote about terra20 when they first came on board as a Fishbowl patron. I’m so glad to have them. I’ve visited the store many times and have always found great stuff there.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22 and terra20 is celebrating all month long. And they’re doing it up BIG. Many terra20 vendors will be visiting the store throughout April. (Psst! Stay in the loop by following terra20 on Facebook and Twitter or bookmark their handy events calendar.)

The general idea for Earth Month is promote easy sustainable living, and each week they are celebrating different ways we can make positive (and noticeable!) changes in our lives.

So for example, on Saturday (the 6th) you can learn about cloth diapering. You can meet the folks behind AppleCheeks, a Canadian cloth diaper company, and also talk to a parent who’s done the whole cloth diapering thing and can share some words of wisdom.

Next Saturday (the 13th) you can learn about litterless lunch options with Julie from Credible Edibles. Julie will be making some special treats that include Grainstorm baked goods. (Hello. Big fan over here. I have a blog post to come about Grainstorm!)

Anyway, yes. There is great stuff happening at terra20, and I cannot recommend the in-store visits enough. It’s a great way to get to know the people behind the label (and ask questions!) and look at some great products up close.

Sooo, drumroll please!

The people at terra20 are giving one lucky Fishbowl reader a $100 gift card to help their family start making manageable eco-friendly changes in their day-to-day lives. (And as we know, the smallest of changes can make a huge difference, right?)

Interested?

  • This giveaway is for ONE (1) $100 gift card to terra20 and is open to anyone residing in the Ottawa area but is void where prohibited by law.
  • In order for your entry to qualify you must answer the following questions in the comments below: What kind of eco-related change do you want to make? And how would you spend your $100 in order to facilitate that change? (Do note that terra20 carries a lot of different brands in a wide variety of categories including cosmetics & personal care, eco-friendly cleaning products, kitchen and housewares, clothing, pet toys (and more!) and there are products being added to their online store every day.)
  • One entry per family please. We want lots of people to have the opportunity to win.
  • The winner must pick up the gift card at terra20 in a timely fashion. If it’s not picked up within 30 days I will do the draw again and choose a new winner.
  • If you can’t post your comment here for whatever reason, you can email it to me for posting. Send it to andrea at quietfish dot com … however I cannot be responsible if your entry is misdirected or gets stuck in my Spam folder.
  • Good karma goes to those who tweet or share this giveaway on Facebook. Do you know someone who would appreciate the chance to win? I bet you do. Forward this info to them!

I will do a random draw of all qualifying entries using Random.org at noon EST on Friday April 12, 2013. Sound good? But wait, there’s another amazing contest going on right now too! How would you like to have someone clean your house for a year? (Er. I think I know what you’re going to say. Nevermind.) It’s the big prize if you happen to be the lucky winner of terra20’s Greener Clean in 2013 contest. (!!) You can get the whole scoop on their blog.

Over to you. And good luck!

I am in the process of replacing more of those yucky plastics in my life. I’d like to buy more non or safe plastic food containers for leftovers, lunches etc. looking to reduce my family’s exposure to nasty chemicals leeching into our food.

Thank you for this opportunity :-)

I make some of my own cleaners……BUT am sadly lacking funds right now to purchase essential oils to add to my cleaners.

I also have been reading about ing in sunscreens etc.
I would love to buy some natural spf products which I’m sure Terra has.
Also, with aging comes wonderful benefits and some NOT so wonderful. Like wrinkles!
I need a Makeover, and have been dying to get to Terra to check out their makeup and tips.

And last but not least, some ideas for transporting healthy foods as when I pick my 10 yr old Grandaughter up from school……she is starving.
Instead of the timmies drive thru I need some ideas!

Sharing and tweeting this!

I would test out cloth diapering options for my son. We’ve been using disposable, and seeing how much waste they create–and knowing their effects on the environment–has me wondering about transitioning to cloth.

I want to change the way I take care of my skin, and my daughters’ too. I’ve always just used whatever cosmetics and lotions were cheapest from the drugstore on my own face and body, but now that my girls have started to become interested in beauty products, and aren’t satisfied with the eco-friendly baby products they used to use, I’d love to find some healthy options for me and for them. I would spend the $100 on high-quality beginner cosmetics for my special girls.

I want to find more sustainable ways to keep the lovely (but large and mud loving) dog clean in the spring time! I am hoping that terra20 can help! What I am I looking for? Products to get all that mud and crud off of her and new ways to get her dry – just beyond the regular towels. Finally, new products to clean up the mess left in the tub. Wowzers what a mess.

A couple of years ago, you posted about switching to green household cleaning products. I committed, at that time, to finish what I had and make the switch. I have and am so glad! Now, I want to shift our personal cleaning products. I recently bought some Aubrey Organics facial cleansing products at terra20 and some organic sunscreen. Now I want to take the plunge with my shampoo and conditioner.

Note: Crazy that I thought it was a couple of years ago when it was actually 5 years ago: http://www.quietfish.com/notebook/?p=1344

I want to start being more eco to myself on the inside and out….this would entail first a trip to the Terra 20 make up counter as I learned recently that our bodies absorb so much of the nasty chemicals in our mascaras and eye makeups through our tear ducts….scary….and also then to the gardening section as I want to try a herb garden for the 1st time to really start healing and soothing my body on the inside as well…basil, thyme, dill, chives, etc. Healthy Body, Happy Heart! We are transitioning out of cloth diapers, all potty all the time at our house! After 3 babies in cloth and added laundry of a growing family, I am glad to be finished. Although it worked well for me as I found laundry time and my 100 foot laundry line zen.
We already use natural or Eco products. I am curious to visit the store and see what is the next step. I want to learn more about saving electricity, light bulbs?
Thanks for this opportunity!

Already love Terra20 and buy many of my products there. I’d put the gift card towards my refills at the Ecobar (I’m coming due soon!) and I have been coveting all the lunch container options for my kids but with 4, it’s a little expensive to invest all at once. Oh, and Daniel Thompson cosmetics – love them! Again, a budget buster that I could put a gift card to good use with.

I would like to purchase more sustainable clothing, more organic fibres and recycled cloth. We’ve made many changes over the years but this one still we haven’t yet largely because of cost. Our answer has been to buy thrifted clothing which works well if you are patient, but sometimes you can’t find X when you need it, and that’s when I would love to buy for example, the organic cotton shrug at terra20, so lovely and I am pining for a spring sweatery thing.

I think we are pretty good at being low impact on the environment in many ways, but one way I’d like to be even more so is with our food storage. I’m using the same Rubbermade containers we got a as a wedding gift 10 years ago and they are showing their age. I’m also not so confident that they are not leaching out some chemical muck. We’ve already purchased a great counter top compost bucket from the store, but I haven’t got one for the back yard yet. I’d like us to start yard composting our veggie scraps to add to the plants and garden rather than buying chemically infused soils. We are good about things around the house, but we have a cottage and are trying to be as off-the-grid as possible. Our “shack” is not too different than living in a tent all summer. We need to use products there that are respectful to the environment, and ones that generate little to no garbage (what we take in, has to come back out). We would use the $100 for products that we can use for general house hold & that are re-fillable. Waste water (and products in waste water) are a huge concern.

Thanks!
