Your ideas needed

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

The, ahem, situation in our basement is spiralling out of control. We have too much stuff and no where to put it. My eye gets twitchy as soon as I go down the stairs.

One area that is accessed a LOT and  gets messy really quickly is Emma and Sarah’s costume box. It’s basically a huge hinged Rubbermaid box, but stuff is spilling out left and right. And I don’t just want to get another bin. Because it just gets lost in there. Anyone out there have better ideas for costume storage?

I’d say use one of these : http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/16684783

(the $7.99 one is crap – trust me)

With one of these for small things and hats:: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/50116499

When they move on past costumes, they’re still useful things.

IKEA used to have a nice looking black one with canvas curtains, but I can’t find it any longer…

Or, find/build a plain medium height cabinet with no shelves and put up a pegboard backing, then use hooks to hang the clothes in the closet? IKEA’s AS IS section is a great place for things like that – find the frame of a Billy Bookshelf, some pegboard from Home Despot, and just hang a curtain in front of it with Velcro Tape?

SIGH I looking for something to put Nathan’s small cars away. I have baskets baskets everywhere.

How about one of those small childrens coat/hat racks so the hang them up or a board with dollar store hooks and then bolt it well to a wall.

Just a thought.

My eye twitches at the playroom that never gets used because there are toys EVERYWHERE!

we used hooks in the wall for costumes & hats. In fact many of them are still hanging there and very occasionally used by the boys who are 21 and 14 (or more often by their friends). At least 17 different costumes were made from one three yard long piece of black fabric. I can’t possibly get rid of it……….

When I was a kid we had a big dresser in the basement we inherited from my grandmother. The bottom drawer was for dress-up clothes, the middle for board games, and the top for my parent’s odds and ends.
