a peek inside the fishbowl

First day, last day

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

Here we are again. It’s the last day of school here at Casa Fishbowl, and like every year I’m alternately flying around the house in a panic and wanting to dive into bed and bury my head under the covers.

I will write more about our summer plans later (speaking of which, are you coming out to CBC’s Play Day this afternoon?) but for now I wanted to fulfill a wee tradition I started awhile back… posting photos from the first day and the last day of school.

Some people measure height on those two days (which is also a great idea – wish I’d thought of that a few years ago) but I choose to take a photo.

So here’s a quick look at how the year school year began for us in September 2011, in the end-of-summer shade of green in front of our house. Oh how I love those smiles:

First day 2011

And here is how it ends, today in June 2012, in front of a very sunny apartment:

last day of school 2012

last day of school 2012

And with that we bid farewell – forevermore – to grade five and grade seven. Sigh.

Speaking of school days ending, have you seen this story yet? It is lovely.

This was a good idea, Andrea, and I’m glad I saw it this morning before the kids went off to school. I always take a ‘first day of school’ photo out in front of our big birch tree, but haven’t done an end of year snap. I know end of year heights, and could probably figure out September heights if I looked on our kitchen door frame. Grade 6 & 8 are done for us, so next September will be one of change as Allison enters high school and Evan enters Gr. 7.

I snapped a pic of my daughter on her last day of school (my first baby is done JK!) It was nice to compare with ehr first day of school photo. It might have been only 10 months, but she has grown so much this year!
