Reno post #44: M-day is nigh

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Home/reno

We’ve run out of time to paint our basement floor.

Our apartment still isn’t rented and the MERE THOUGHT of carrying our rent after we’ve moved into the new house is giving me heartburn and regular panic attacks. (See/share/email the listing here. Gah.)

Our move-in day is October 24th and there is a mile-long list of things that needs to be done.

CALM BLUE OCEAN.

CALM BLUE OCEAN.

So right now I’m trying to cross one bridge at a time and focus on the good things.

Like my perfect dogwashin’ sink (marble tile and backsplash still to come):

And my duel-fuel GE stove (from Universal) and amazing Notto D’oro granite countertops (from Arban Stoneworks) and gorgeous Riobel bathtub faucet (found at Westend Bath and Kitchen). Sigh.

This week – of all weeks – I need to clone myself at least two or three times. How on earth am I going to get everything done?

Take a deep breath and realize you cannot get it all done. Then sort out what can be done later. Example, it is hard to paint a floor after you move in, but walls can be managed one at a time by moving things aside.

But the real reason I’m posting this comment is – where did you get that sink? I desperately want a new sink our summer kitchen (we live in a big old house in the country). I need a big sink for rinsing mud off boots, and rinsing boot trays (I keep the dog’s dishes on one to keep the floor just a little bit cleaner) etc etc. Right now those kinds of jobs have to be lugged upstairs to the bathtub. That “dog washing sink” looks wonderful.

Good luck with moving day :)

Hi Lisa!

I’m really trying hard to focus on one thing at a time but it’s easy to be overwhelmed!

The sink is a white cast-iron Kohler brand kitchen sink. The style is called Cape Dory. It took me a long time to find and ordered it sight unseen from Boone!

You’ll make it. The money squeeze is a real stressor…but not too long from now you will forget that part of the journey but you will still be enjoying the comforts of your home. Ran by the house today while we were out for a run…looks great!

Do you have a college or some sort of trade school nearby that has students in it that may be interested in renting an apartment short term? Are you near the airport (I’m in Toronto, not familiar with Westborough/Ottawa neighbourhoods). Airport/airline staff sometimes need or want short term rentals.

Good luck!

I think we have the same faucet! Heh.

You are going to make it! Before you know it, the worrying will be a thing of the past and you will be enjoying dinner in your new digs…

It’s looking really great!! We were in the same position as you last summer, had a gutted house and moved back into it with it 90% done but not quite. They were painting up until the day before we moved in among other things. Contractors were in and out for the first 2 weeks we were back in. Looking back on it, it was stressful but fine.

I’m noticing we have similar kitchen tastes!! We also have a dark brown island with white main cabinets and white subway tile backsplash! Love that look! The only difference is we went with a lighter granite counter, more in the golds/browns.

Enjoy your new home!
