coffee and hypnosis, together but not related

Posted by andrea in: Misc. life

I am sitting here drinking hot coffee in a rather congratulatory fashion. Why? Because I figured out how to keep it hot.

We make coffee in the morning in a French press. Makes lovely coffee, but there is no way to keep it hot.

I spent a dollar and bought an ancient avocado-and-beige coloured thermos from the thrift store. It made me laugh. It was sooo seventies. I actually bought it with the express purpose of using it to transport hot chocolate to the toboggan hill, but it has now proved itself indispensable on a daily basis. And I’m not a construction worker.

The thing actually works. I shouldn’t be so surprised, I mean, there’s a whole business that’s been built around keeping food warm. I just haven’t ever had one that worked so well.

After we’ve had our first coffees I pour the remains into the thermos. Ta da! That’s my secret. Two hours later when I’m ready for a second cup it’s there. Waiting. Just as hot as two hours previous.

Amazing.

My friend Leah and I are taking a self-hypnosis class tonight.

Please stop laughing. It’s true! She emailed me in March (her tempting subject line: “Wanna do something quirky with me?” … ha …. Leah knows me so well. This is from the course description:

“Learn how to harness the powers of your mind and start transforming your life now. With hypnosis you can stop smoking, lose weight, sleep better, reduce stress, improve study habits, eliminate phobias, stop procrastination and more!”

My first question: can I only pick one of the above? ;)

I could use help in all of those areas, minus the one about smoking. If you were taking this class what would you want help fixing?

The way I see it, this course is really about deep meditation. And if I learn a few things about that I will consider my $33.00 well spent. I think meditation should be offered in pre-natal/postnatal classes. It’s a skill no parent should be without.

An update on our class will be posted here tomorrow. I just hope I don’t wake up clucking like a chicken.
