a peek inside the fishbowl

Back in January I visited an Ottawa-area lice removal service and wrote about it here. To summarize: I was really impressed with what I saw at Lice Services Canada. The owner, Anne Doswell, and her staff are (a) the top people in this field who are (b) sensitive to the needs of families and (c) […]

I’ve mentioned the book Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives, by Gretchen Rubin here on the blog before. It was a very insightful read. She’s done a lot of thinking about habit formation: why are we so good at adopting some habits over others? What can we do to break bad […]

Enjoying HALLOWEEK at Saunders Farm

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Fishbowl patrons

Last week I brought our youngest daughter and a few friends to experience Fright Fest at Saunders Farm.* I decided to tag along and get the lay of the land so to speak. Although we’ve been visiting Saunders for many years it was only during daylight hours, so this was to be my first glimpse […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
