Snowy Mondays require something like this, don’t they?
We woke up to a massive amount of snow this morning, 21 cm apparently. The girls were thrilled. The sidewalks weren’t plowed so we walked to school along the road, in the deep grooves made by passing cars.
I officially predict a white Christmas. Maybe the canal will be open before the holidays, who knows? Did you know Trailhead rents skis and snowshoes? Perhaps this is the year we sign up for lessons.
When I got home from dropping the girls off at school I tried shovelling the driveway, but only managed to get part of it done. Smart Ottawans know to use the backsaving snow scoop instead of the traditional shovel, and it helped, but omg, that’s still a lot of snow to scoop.
Saturday morning I went to the Ladyfest Not your Grandma’s Holiday craft sale. I ran into Miss Vicky and her little cutie, Wee G.
There was a lot of amazing stuff there, but I only walked away with one thing:
It’s a pear cozy! So clever. I’ve always believed pears to be such a delicate fruit, deserving of a bit of extra care. Miss Twiss knit this one. She also had a bunch of banana cosies, a couple of which were a little racy. So hilarious. It was really difficult to decide.
Alas, my experience at the craft show wasn’t entirely a happy one. I lost a really nice warm winter hat. I looked everywhere. It was pink and wooly (lined with black fleece) and had long ear flaps. Oh well. You win some, you lose some, right?
Here are the paper ornaments we made on Saturday. I really like how they turned out. They twist and turn on the breeze draft.
Forgive the crappy shot. They were difficult to photograph. (And please do try to ignore our awful light fixture. I can’t believe we’ve lived in this house for TEN years and never changed it. Gack.) They’re hanging over our dining room table.
I got the idea (& instructions) from here.
