Bathing suit search of 2008. A tale of woe.

By andrea tomkins in Misc. life

I’ll start from the end of the story.

Here is a pic of the swimsuit I bought this year.

This is good news, right? That I found something that covers all the right bits?

*sigh*

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I have a new suit, lord knows I needed one, but I am feeling rather meh about it. I like it. I don’t love it.

I write about my quest to buy a bathing suit every year. I can’t help myself. It’s an issue every g.d. year.

care to test your strength?

By andrea tomkins in Misc. life

I’m reading a couple books in the popular “YOU” series, specifically, “YOU: the owner’s manual” and “YOU: on a diet”. I borrowed them from the library.

Have you read either of these? The writing is a little too Looneyspoons for my liking (if you catch my drift), but I will admit that the style (as looney as it is) makes the information more digestible than mashed bananas on a warm plate – thus easy to read.

Ha.

What I do like about them is that they go into the science behind health, nutrition and weight (or as they put it) waist-management.

There’s a chapter in one of these books (I can’t find it now) in which the authors talk about upper body strength. Apparently, woman my age (35) should be able to do 45 push-ups. That’s FOURTY FIVE push-ups – albeit of the girly knee-on-the-floor variety… but STILL. Fourty five!

I thought I was in pretty good shape. I’ve been going to gym 5x week! I tried doing 45, but struggled to get to 40. In fact, by #38 I was a heap of soggy jello, ready to collapse. But I pushed myself to 40 and did it.

I tried it on three separate occasions. I can only do 40, but I will continue to try to reach 45. That’s my goal.

But I want to know, how many can you do? G’wan. I dare you to drop and try 45. Come back and tell me how you did.

I’m going to Jamaica in less than a week. (!)

Today I have assigned myself the task of going through my closet and picking out the clothes I want to bring with me. I have a tendency to overpack, and I really don’t want to overpack.

My to-do list is growing:

– get my watch fixed
– buy a new bathing suit (an essential purchase, trust me on that)
– get my documentation in order and make photocopies etc.

I am hoping Mark will blog about singledadhood while I’m away, but I think he might need a little boost of encouragement, and some convincing.

So. Is anyone out there interested in what my dear husband has to say? Any topics you’d like to see him cover while I’m gone? ;)

** Everyone who makes a suggestion about something Mark can blog about while I’m lying on a steamy beach sipping something frothy and delicious will be entered in a random draw.

I will send the winner a copy of Toddler: Real-life Stories of Those Fickle, Irrational, Urgent, Tiny People we Love by Jennifer Margulis. OR, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, how about a copy of Everything is Illuminated, by Jonathan Safran Foer?

Don’t let me down folks. Give the guy some fodder. And please try and keep it clean, would ya? ;)

Ready? Set? Go!
