Why you should work for free

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: The business of blogging

I will work for free. Sometimes. And here’s why I think you should too. Last week I was invited to a special speaking engagement. Arlene Dickinson and Sir Terence Matthews were scheduled to speak at the Ottawa Convention Centre (the proceeds went to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa). It was a great morning. Both […]

Before I launch in to this post I need to state for the record that I am (a) tapping this out on the Chromebook pictured above at my neighborhood Bridgehead and (b) it was sent to me with no strings attached via Staples Canada and as always, my opinions are my own. If you follow […]

First blog post on our Chromebook!

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!

I’m tapping this post out on a new Samsung Chromebook that was delivered to our house earlier this week courtesy of Staples. The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
