Thinking about cars on Earth Day

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Yaktivism

The other night we watched a really interesting episode of Cosmos. (Have you watched this show? I just realized you can catch it online here.) It was episode seven, which was about a fellow named Clair Patterson, who took on the task of figuring out the age of the earth. During this process he had to invent the ultra “clean […]

We’ve been camping for years, ever since the girls were wee, and as much as I love camping  there is one thing I absolutely dread: packing. It’s my job to pack up the supplies and coolers (although my kids are responsible for packing their own clothing) and it’s my husband’s job to pack it all […]

A quick note and a pickup truck

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: travel talk

This is one of my all-time favourite camping photos. It cracks me up every time: CHIPMUNK PHOTOBOMB! Haha! This morning Mark will be packing up the pickup (YES, there is a TRUCK. Read on for the backstory!) while I’m scrambling around like a madwoman trying to strike things off our very very long list. We […]

A bit about a recent visit to Almonte!

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
