I’m thrilled to be introducing a new patron to the Fishbowl family today: terra20! I’ve written about terra20 before, most recently as it pertained to a bar of my favourite soap. :) Some of you have probably already heard about terra20. They are Canada’s first eco-friendly department store and they carry a finely edited selection of […]

Longtime Fishbowl readers know that I’m a huge advocate of mindful consumerism, especially this time of year. This method of shopping basically comes down to this: if you’re going to buy stuff, make it GOOD stuff. That’s why I’m happy to introduce JOLICA.

Can you go a day without buying something? A week? A month? Why or why not?

Christmas is over and we’re in the throes of Boxing Week. The media has been full of images of people falling over themselves to snag some deals. I certainly understand why this happens. If you want to buy something (computer, Xbox, camera, wrapping paper for next Christmas etc) and have the money to spend, this is the ideal […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark. We have two daughters: Emma (19) and Sarah (17). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
