March Break started with a bang. Last night one of the girls had a sleepover. We had an impromptu summer picnic-style dinner (hots and hams, carrot slaw, and potato chips!) and afterwards curled up to watch Open Season 2. They are all chatting over breakfast while I attempt to plan the rest of our week. There is work […]

Know More Do More: catchup time

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: - Know More Do More

I’ve been travelling for work as well as with the family, and KMDM has had to take a back seat for a couple of weeks. I think we’ve been doing okay in terms of being mindful of our habits, but I will say that the healthy eating part of things took a bit of a nosedive […]

Know More Do More Mondays: biking

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: - Know More Do More

I’ve decided to summarize our Know More Do More campaign participation every Monday.* This is the first one. I drew our first family activity on Rogers Daytime last week, so, much to my chagrin, I had actual witnesses. Marie Claude Turcotte (Manager of the School Age Program for Ottawa Public Health), the hosts and crew of Daytime, as well […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
