Dying of the cuteness

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Easy ways to make kids happy|Publishing/writing/career stuff|Recipes and Food

Oh my, how I love craft projects that provide a satisfying two-for-one dealio. Don’t you? First up, our tiny lunchsnack!

Quail egg, over easy on toast. :)

Note: No quarters were swallowed during the consumption of this meal.

This is a quail egg, over easy, on a tiny buttered round of toasted rye, with a garnish of baby broccoli sprouts (which I wrote about here and are still going strong).

Our meal was so cute. And good! Quail eggs taste just like regular hen’s eggs. I picked these up at T & T Supermarket. Aren’t they pretty?

Quail eggs

I would be remiss if I didn’t share a word of warning. I don’t know there was an issue with this particular batch of eggs but the exterior shells smelled quite, er, barnyard. If you’re doing to do anything with these, please wash them first. I beg you.

I didn’t wash them and I later found myself scrubbing my lips with hand soap, but I was still getting the odd whiff so I followed up with chocolate covered coffee beans. And then I was STILL smelling phantom barn so I made tea and BURNED IT OFF. That helped.

ANYWAY, don’t let that deter you from this craft. Haha! I just made it out to seem pretty awful, didn’t I? Sorry about that. And if you’re wondering why I had my lips all over them eggs instead of just cracking ’em in a pan, you can read about it over at Canadian Family Magazine today.

Here’s a hint:

p.s. I really urge you to try this one because the results are just stunning. Let me know if you do! I’d love to see your results!
