Big roundup of Easter crafts and other goodness for the young and young at heart (like me)

Edited to add: we made these candy nests today!
Some people really like hippos. Or penguins. I know someone who really likes bears and owls. I believe that everybody finds a kindred spirit in some member of the animal kingdom. Small problem is, if you mention it to anyone you’ll receive animal-related gifts until the day you die: keychains, stuffed-toys, coffee mugs etc etc. So don’t feel compelled to chime in here and tell me that you really like iguanas or naked mole rats. If you don’t want to be found out it’s best not to say anything at all.
But I will happily go on record with my list of creatures. Not all of them are cute and fuzzy. I like birds, and we have several bird-related items around the house. I like fish. I like squirrels. I like the realistic kind of insect-imagery in art and fashion. But I also like Easter chicks and bunny rabbits. Love ’em, in fact. We have a small cast iron non-cute bunny employed as a doorstop in our front hallway.
And plush rabbits? I love ’em too.
I am really looking forward to Easter this year. Some of you might recall that in our house the plush bunnies always gather in the living room. It’s a yearly thing. And I have a feeling that this year’s additions to our bunny family are going to take the cake. (Wait and see!)
So far the only Easter-related thing I’ve done is to clip some branches in preparation for our Easter tree. The branches need about a week indoors before the leaves start to grow. (Pictured here last year)
All this to say: I am on the lookout for really awesome chick n’ bunny-related crafts because we need to ramp up the Easter quotient in our house PRONTO.
I spent a LOT of time blowing out eggs this morning. Ew.
I think I have all the supplies I need. I’m considering doing these projects with the girls over the next few days:
- Bluebird egg
- Edible candy nest [see pic above]
- Cute cotton-ball chick
- Grass in eggshell
- Easter egg chicks
- Clay nestegg
- Yarn eggs
FYI, here’s a good explanation of how to blow out the innards of the eggs: http://craftydaisies.com/2007/03/28/hallowed-easter-eggs/
Got any others? Please share!
