The other day someone from a PR firm asked me if I wanted a sample of the new baby elephant chalkboard wall decal set from WallCandy Arts. I replied in the affirmative because it was TOO CUTE TO REFUSE. We picked it up from the post office before the holidays. The girls were over the moon. Emma has a tree-shaped chalkboard set (shown here, but I don’t think it’s available anymore) by WallCandy in her room already, and she uses it all of the time.
I’m a convert. These peel and stick decals are removable and reusable, non-toxic, lead-free, and VOC free. And the designs are fabulous.
The baby elephant (along with her cute little birdie friends and water droplets) has been added to the wall right next to our kitchen. I have pledged to use it to answer the one question that gets asked about 100 times every day (and I get really tired of answering after the first ten times):
“What’s for Dinner?”
And so I am slowly getting into the habit of asking one of the girls to fill out the elephant for me.
I do love the idea of using chalkboards around the house. We have a chalkboard oilcloth which is nice to spread on the floor every once in awhile. This came from my friend Marla in the mail some time ago:
- Here’s a DIY for creating a chalkboard dining room table. (I really want to do this!)
- It seems easy to make a small one for kids too. This is from IkeaHacker.
- What about a whole wall in the kitchen? Or the cabinets. Or the fireplace. (!) There are a lot of great ideas out there.
- … and here’s the kind of chalk I’d buy for all of these chalkboards: something colourful and dustless!
