I promise that the next 20 posts aren’t going to be all about what I’m eating, because that would be boring – for you and for me. I will update here and there when I have something to say, but if you are curious and want the daily menu update it is posted over here […]

I haven’t written about this here, but awhile back my eldest decided she didn’t want to eat beef anymore, or at least, drastically reduce the amount she was eating. I was ok with this, because I didn’t really want to eat it anymore either. There are many reasons why reducing the amount of red meat […]

How to read more books in 2015

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Challenge me, challenge you

Now that we have turned the page on a new calendar year I’ve decided to track my reads in 2015 and see how many I can squeeze in, and possibly (hopefully!) read even more. Here’s my strategy: I’m going to read more books this year by (a) maintaining some good reading habits and (b) finding new material. 1) […]

My sense of time is distorted. Mostly because one of the publications I work on, Capital Parent Newspaper, is produced ahead of time and it messes with my internal calendar. The Christmas issue is already out and I’ve been thinking about the New Year for a couple of weeks already. Perhaps that’s where this post comes from. […]

New Year’s resolutions… with kids

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Challenge me, challenge you

Happy New Year! We had a fairly lazy New Year’s Eve here at Casa Fishbowl. For dinner we ate a whole bunch of appetizers (pizza bites, bacon-wrapped scallops, coconut chicken lollipops, veggies and dip), and then we caught Catching Fire at the Coliseum. When we got home we played video games (giving the WiiU a […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
