Normalizing environmentally-friendly behaviours

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!|Yaktivism

When I was 18 I visited family in the Czech Republic for the first time. It wasn’t long after the Berlin wall had come down. I never expected to be able to go there, back to the motherland, but I did. I stayed with my grandmother, my mother’s mother, who lived in Prague. I remember […]

News from the shower

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!|Publishing/writing/career stuff

I was having a little chuckle over the story of Forever 21’s new USPS fashion collection just now and I remembered that my post about my One Dress, Thirty Days challenge is still sitting in my drafts folder. I am still gathering my thoughts, but to be honest, I’m not sure if it’s coming out […]

We got mail!

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!|Ottawa

So this arrived today… … our member cards to the National Gallery of Canada! We had a membership many moons ago and decided to renew it this year during a recent visit to see Anthropocene. (Which was amazing, by the way.) The family membership is $105, and will definitely pay for itself within the next […]

Things I am loving: David’s tea sampler

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!

It seems unfair to single out one Christmas gift of many lovely gifts, but I wanted to share this because I am really enjoying this David’s tea sampler right now and I think many of you would too. I should qualify this all by saying that I like tea well enough but I’m definitely not a […]

I have a new post up at the terra20 website and I wanted to share it here too because I LOVE MY NEW SLIPPERS SO MUCH. (Thanks mom.) Mark has hinted that they give my feet a slight Hobbit-like appearance, but I don’t care what he thinks because nothing beats warm feet. Share the post […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
