I’ve been away, at my mother’s place in fact, painting her living room ceiling and a couple of walls. I learned that you CAN paint white over brown wood panelling!
It still feels pretty good to be 37 even though my neck and shoulders are rather sore right now.
My birthday was perfect in every way. It could not have been better!
I had a special breakfast of fresh bagels from the Ottawa Bagelshop and wild salmon and then it was PRESENT TIME.
The girls picked out a gorgeous necklace from Bija Bijoux and a cozy hoodie (with thumb-holes!) from Roots. I also got some some candy from The Candy Store: gummies (they are the BEST gummies I’ve ever had), assorted taffy and a square of caramel au beurre au sel de mer. Yum.
I was extra happy that everything they bought was from local shops.

Because there’s a photographer here and I have to pretend to be blogging while he’s taking my picture.
SMILE!
The other day I met someone who didn’t know what an ATARI was. I felt rather ancient for a moment or two… and then returned to reality.
–
I would like to start by admitting that until a couple of months ago I thought I was 37 about to turn 38. I was thrilled when Mark corrected me.
“YOU MEAN I’VE BEEN 36 THIS WHOLE TIME?” I said. I felt like I’d won a lottery… like my life had been extended by a whole year. Well, today I’m 37 FOR REAL.
Instead of being depressed about growing one year older and getting a little bit closer to checking myself into an old age home, I’m reflecting on other things. This is not something I’m foisting upon myself in an effort to cheer myself up. I’m really feeling good about the State of My Life at the moment.
- I have a wonderful husband
- I have two sweet little girls, who are smart and funny and a joy to be around
- I truly enjoy my chosen career path, in which there have been some new developments (I’m keeping a lid on it all for now but I will say that they are Thrillingly Exciting and Make Me Want to Pinch Myself. Hard.)
- I love my neighborhood and my community
- I live in good health and relative comfort without too much worry
- I like the person I have become
Oh friends. I don’t mean to get all weepy but I very am glad to be me today … and I wanted to share that with you.
Can I ask you all for a birthday gift? I’d love to hear what good things are going on in your life right now. Indulge me!
