I am thrilled to introduce a new patron to the Fishbowl family this week. The Ottawa Gymnastics Centre (OGC) is the oldest operating not-for-profit gymnastics organization in Canada and has been part of the Ottawa community since 1960. It’s been part of my family’s life for many years. We love what they do there, and how […]

Looking for birthday party ideas for kids in Ottawa? Here’s the lowdown on a party we hosted for our 12-year old daughter. (Plus a big giveaway!)

We’ve booked our youngest daughter’s birthday party at Funhaven again this year and have been busy handing out the party invitations. They’re so neat (her idea, not mine!) and I wanted to share it with you: It’s crazy easy to pull this together: 1) Write or print the details of the party on a small […]

Funhaven is one of the best things to happen in Ottawa in a long time. If you’re looking for things to do in Ottawa, this is it! Laser tag, bumper cars, simulators, arcade games and much more!

  • Jarrett: And six years later the net nannies come out
  • Sara: Purple dandelion cooler bag by So Young!
  • Carly: We're partial to the So Young lunch bags - so durable and not too babyish, which is a firm requirement of our Grade 4 son. There are so many options,
  • Fiona: I am a fan of the Crocidile Creek designs.
  • Patricia Dodge: Love the safari be to boxes, cute and practical.
  • Kate G: The Onyx 12 cm will be perfect! it can hold the constant array of veggie salads that are created for lunches at our place - especially those from Oh S
  • Jason: I like the lunch containers with the clip on lids, great for sandwiches or fruits!

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (16) and Sarah (14). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times, and a regular contributor to MediaSmarts.ca. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

Created with flickr badge.

Click the photo for details: what it is, where I ate it (if it's worth a mention!) and how to cook it (if there happens to be a recipe). You can also read more about this project right here.
