Around this time last year we decided to start a 52-week money-saving jar. You can read more about that here, but to summarize, we socked away an increasing sum of money every week with a goal in mind: a two-night getaway to Fairmont Chateau Montebello over the holiday season. The idea was to leave the chaos of […]

Is it just me, or do kids get harder to buy for as they get older? I wanted to share a few ideas of things that we ALREADY love here at Casa Fishbowl in case you’re looking for some ideas for the tweens and young teens in your lives. A scooter Sarah’s first cheapie scooter […]

As some of you already know, I spend a lot of time thinking and writing about the foods we eat. I think most parents do, whether not not they are writers or bloggers or, ahem, editors of Canadian recipe sharing websites. ;) That’s why I am happy to FINALLY be able to share a bit […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
