Working our way down our 2024 summer bucket list

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life|Ottawa

I have felt like a bit of a wreck lately. I haven’t been sleeping well. I had a sizable cyst removed from my back (I’m ok but ew). I have been dealing with sore knees for weeks, and most recently, an eyelid infection. The latter means I can’t wear makeup. I know that’s vain but […]

Summer bucket list 2023: Take me out to the ball game

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Ottawa

The last time I went to a baseball game in Ottawa was in the summer of 2019. I was invited to a media/influencer event for the Ottawa Champions and it was a hoot. As a bonus I won a very pretty pair of diamond studs that I still love and wear on the regular. (You […]

Summer bucket list 2023: There’s no place like HOM

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: travel talk

Last summer Mark and I had fun around town guided by an “Ottawa summer bucket list” of our own design and I’m keen to do it again. I have learned that I need to make lists of ideas and places to go as they come up, otherwise they get forgotten and we revert to things […]

I know, I know, I am diverging from what is typically expected from a bucket list* but if you don’t pick up lunch from Bite This in Westboro Village at some point this summer you will regret it: It’s delicious. It’s reasonably priced. The serving size makes it an extra good value. You sit outside in a […]

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: travel talk

I enjoyed camping with the kids when they were small. We built many sandcastles and collected many frogs over the years, but there’s something special about camping with kids when they turn into Young Adults. They are there to lend a hand during a hike, rub your shoulders when they’re sore, and share a beverage and conversation […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
