Thanksgiving2

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Thanksgiving is a little different now that one of our chicks has flown the coop. She started her second year at Queen’s in September and took the bus home. Mark and I picked her up at the bus station on Friday and drove her home on Monday night, which made for a short visit that […]

Thanksgiving dinner

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

I’ve been locked out of my own blog for some reason. Long story, but I can’t update it in the usual way so I am using a workaround to post this. Hopefully it doesn’t disappear into the ether. Sigh. I’ve been dealing with some technical issues and it’s really starting to wear on me. We had […]

Will they eat it: Turkey Curry

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

This is one of my favourite recipes for turkey curry. It makes great use of leftover Thanksgiving turkey too. Let me know if you try it!

We’re doing some doodling at the dinner table in a brand new way.

This is a difficult time of year for families in need. The Ottawa Food Bank needs donations of cash and non-perishable food items. • Amy: I always make the bed, partly because my mom was a stickler for it growing up and partly because I make it easy to do. I have to have the sheets tuck

  • Natalie Robichaud: I always make my bed. It's a small to do checked off the list and I like getting into a bed that's made at night. What SAD light do you use?

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark. We have two daughters: Emma (19) and Sarah (17). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
