This is day two of March Break

Posted by andrea tomkins in: - Ottawa for kids|Easy ways to make kids happy

First day of March Break!

I have a March Break philosophy, and it goes something like this: Every Day a Little Something. Not every day has to be a giant party or big excursion. Because that’s downright exhausting. I also have work to do, so I’m trying to keep our week reasonably balanced with fun stuff, chores, and responsibilities. :)

Yesterday was a pretty good start to our March Break and it might be hard to beat. I spent the morning working, and at 11:00 the youngest and I drove downtown. I had an appearance on CTV News at Noon (the segment was about things to do with kids over March Break), and afterwards we grabbed sushi at Lapointe’s. (Note to self: it was very good.)

After dinner, the four of us went back downtown to see Potted Potter. Have you heard of it? It’s an “unauthorized” parody of the Harry Potter series. Someone MAY have almost fallen out of her seat laughing. It was very fun.

I’m not sure what we’re going to be doing the rest of the week, but I poked around in my archives to find a few ideas we might revisit over March Break:

It’s worth noting that as I’m typing this, someone is composing a song our new-to-us iPad and we’re heading out to the library after lunch. And let it be known there is also grocery shopping and laundry to do too. Gah.

What are you up to this March Break?

My husband is caring for our girls all week, and he’s doing something small each morning. Yesterday it was Aviation museum, today it was Agriculture museum, and I think tomorrow will be Science and Technology :) Thursday and Friday will be a visit to the library and then activities at Place D’Orleans. Small trips each day saves his sanity!!

Isn’t it lovely to be somewhat free to do things everyone enjoys? I find the school year so exhausting with all the scheduling of school and activity related things that it’s nice to not have to rush around during March break.

We too have something up every day but not all day or some big event each day. Yesterday we went to an indoor playground, today they’re at a provincial park with my mom, tomorrow we stay home and dog sit. Easy and relaxing, with some outdoor activity and some indoor.

PS not to self – get sushi into the program too. :)

Took my 10-year-old to see Potted Potter yesterday and holy cow was it ever funny.

I try to mix “easy” activities (walk the dog, go sledding at the local hill) with “ambitious” stuff (day trip to a museum) over the March break. Today was basically a snow day and we hung around the house watching movies, painting, drawing and playing Lego. Tomorrow we’re going skiing (ambitious) and Friday it’s the Lego contest at the Aviation Museum (also ambitious)!
