Monday fallout

Posted by andrea in: Misc. life

The weekend was a busy one. So busy, in fact, that our house looks like it was picked up and shaken by a killer tornado sometime last week and just recently put back down on its foundations. I?d be surprised if the wicked witch of the east wasn’t lying – squashed – underneath me right now. If I donned her ruby slippers would our mess clean itself up? I wonder.

There’s no place like a clean home, there’s no place like a clean home.

The weekend should have been spent cleaning/doing laundry/tidying. Instead, we did about 100 other things. Most importantly, Mark and I have spent every spare second in the basement trying to purge our belongings. It’s going well, but it’s still a mess down there. Our goal is to have it DONE by the end of the week. (!)

I spent Saturday morning roving around the neighborhood looking for yard sales – not because I wanted to buy anything, but because I was on assignment. It was fun. I took lots of photos (until my battery pooped out on me), talked to some very nice people, and somehow managed to walk away with a bunch of new stuff despite the fact that an excess of STUFF is the reason that Mark and I have spent every spare second in the basement.

And sorting through that stuff stopped being fun a long time ago.

My purchases:

1 shotglass: 25 cents… (can one ever have enough shot glasses? I think not.)
1 wind-up bug: free (NEED I SAY MORE)
1 pair of salt and pepper shakers: 25 cents. (Red. Apple shaped. So tacky they are beautiful.
100 + pieces of Kodak lens cleaning papers: 25 cents
4 Mexican milk glasses: $4.00 … Almost verged on the side of pricey, but they were solid, and interesting enough so I had to buy them. There are clear, with the usual imperfections that come with Mexican glassware, and have interesting green and blue blobs of glass embedded in the glass.

The rest of the weekend was a blur, and included soft-serve ice cream cones, driving to Marmora, fleecing Canadian Tire of all their storage bins, swimming in Mary and Gary’s pool, and playing Scattegories and debating weather a “knuckle sandwich” is an acceptable answer in the sandwich category.

Ok. Back to work.

p.s. the words written on the suitcase in the photo below: “Long dresses, tights, panties…”
