BOLO recap

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Multimedia experiments|Ottawa

Last night I mingled with fellow Ottawa bloggers at BOLO (a.k.a. Blog Out Loud Ottawa). An amazing event which was organized by Lynn from TurtleHead and took place at Raw Sugar on Somerset Ave.

It was fun fun fun.

(Lynn, are we going to do it again next year?)

I was one of a bunch of bloggers who read their posts out loud to the crowd. I enjoyed reading, and really enjoyed hearing what each blogger chose to read.

In my excitement to read I didn’t explain my own particular choice of post. The incident in question happened about eight years ago but has always stuck with me.  FYI: It’s buried rather deep in my archives, written at a time when I hand coded everything myself, and it would be impossible to rebuild those files so I can’t really link to it.

I was going to cut and paste the text into a new post here, but in the spirit of BOLO I thought I should do an audio recording of it instead. So here it is, without further ado, The Maternity Spot, which will  be online until I decide it’s sucking up too much bandwidth. :)

(I really need to invest in a good mike. *sigh*)

p.s. Milan has posted some great pics of the event on the Raw Sugar Facebook page. You can see them by going to the Raw Sugar Facebook Page and scrolling down to the very bottom to the section marked “photos.” Thank you Milan! Lynn posted a smattering too.

That was a fabulous post! I really enjoyed listening to it this morning while I get things ready in the store. I wish I could have heard them all last night.

There have been many times I have wondered about the people parking the pregnancy spot, and many other post partum when I saw people park in the family spot.

In the dead of winter, while hauling a heavy kid in a bucket seat, I wanted to curse the people who filled all the family spots at Loblaws, while trudging through snow and praying I didn’t drop the car seat.

Incidentally, the assumption by WP-Spamfree that any user that doesn’t allow random scripts to execute is a spambot is pretty unjustifiable. Those seeking to avoid both malware and annoyance often use add-ons like NoScript to increase the security of their browsers.

(I mention this because WP-Spamfree initially blocked me from commenting)

It was great Andrea! I loved the post you chose and you are such a great speaker. I haven’t spoken in front of people in, well, six years so I was definitely a little nervous. Perhaps I will do better next year.

Your reading was great by the way. You were totally natural!

Your story was great, so typical of Canadians to be shy and reserved and usually not say anything – of course the time you do, it comes back to bite you in the @ss! Hilarious!
