Last day of summer

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

I woke up with a list in my head, one which included things like Groceries and Laundry and Vistek and Radio Shack (I know it’s not called Radio Shack anymore, but I can’t get used to calling it THE SOURCE).

I’m in a bit of a tizzy wondering what to do with the girls today, on the Last Day of Summer Holidays. I feel the need to make it special, yet The List is looming rather large today, as is my schedule for the month of September. I am waiting for some people to get back to me about things before I contact other people about other things. Gah! I really need to sit down and take a chill pill. ;)

I do have an idea for tomorrow. I’m going to use my iPhone to take (and upload) one photo every hour for the whole day, morning ’til night.

In the meantime, tell me, what are you guys doing today? Celebrating? Organizing? Sharpening pencils? :)

my kiddies don’t start until next tuesday so we have one more week. i still feel quite anxious though, i really don’t feel ready for summer break to end. i guess that is a good thing, it means we’ve had a fantastic summer.

my advice to you (even though it would be very difficult for me to manage myself) is to do some work/errands this morning and plan to stop at a certain time when you can let the fun begin. then you will be more likely to focus on the fun and let the work/errand stuff escape your mind.

as for me…i’m turning off my computer now…hope it stays off all day and i’m going to give my house a quick tidy and go and enjoy the day with my girls.

I was going to do the photo-each-hour thing back in January, but staggered into the 365 project instead. Can’t wait to see your pix.

I just dropped Tristan off at school — happy and sad and excited, all at the same time. (And he was, too!)

I am at work. Wishing I had taken this day off to enjoy with my boys. But alas, I have no more vacation days left for this year. UGH

We don’t start school, but are navigating our first full day at home with Dad who has been on parental leave the last 35 weeks.

There were a lot of tears and crying for the first 20 minutes (and it wasn’t me!).

I am thinking a walk will be in order. Maybe groceries. A trip to my work to check in on how things are going.

We walked over to the school this morning to drop off the Captain’s extensive medical supplies (for allergies), and we were hoping to find out who their teachers are for this year. Sadly, the school is sticking by its policy of not announcing teachers/classes until the first day — you show up, go to the big sign marked “Grade One”, and someone there will tell you what class to go to. Is that stupid, or what?

Anyway, everyone was hot and cranky on the walk over and the Captain had a major meltdown on the way home, so now we’re having hot chocolates and marshmallows and watching Martha Speaks. Hopefully the rest of the day will magically turn into something special :).

We’re so ready to go back. On Thurs Jake and I have to go to the school to pay fees and get his locker, and we’ll probably find a few things to do this last week.

I’m admitting we are bored, though, and school is just the thing to get us back to the old routine again. Bring it on!

Oh btw! I am having a giveaway over at Notes From the Cookie Jar! A gift from to my Canadian readers…a 1 year magazine subscription! (you even get to choose from a selection)

It’s a quiet day for us – taking it easy before all the chaos begins this week of making sure everyone gets where they need to be. One project is sticking our Mabel’s Labels on everything….

We’re officially back onto a routine as of this morning. First day of school for my daughter and into daycare for my son. I felt so anxious last night, for no particular reason at all too. For our family, it’s been a bit of a blah summer, so we’re all ready to move on. Plus, I love the fall.

The first day of September is a cool day in NY. The sun is out but it has that fall feeling in the air that summer is over in the northeast. We did not have the best of summers, only 3 months long, June rained all but 2-3 days, July never hit 90 and Aug had 1 week of real HHH whether.

So here I am and my only child went off to his first day of college this fall, the morning was filled with last minute favors that I did for him before he flew out the door.

I have no fear that this will take place again in the morning. No matter how old they are, they still need their moms.

Not checking work e-mail. Our daughter wants to have a run through to practice timing for getting on the bus by herself. We are going to lay out clothes for the morning, shower, watch a funny family comedy (we’ll give our teenager the option of going out to a family movie with us–ha ha-he will never choose that). We will have an early dinner and try not to drive our car anywhere for the last day of our holidays. We will try to make sure we smile a lot so the last day of summer holidays is happy!
