the lump

Posted by andrea in: Misc. life

It wasn’t a lipoma but some kind of subdermal cyst.

Most of it was removed. And when I say most, I say it with a cringe. It wasn’t all removed, and as a result there is a possibility it will return.

“How likely is it to grow back?” I asked.
“Do you want the statistics?”
“No, in a word… it is, say, fairly likely?”
“No, not fairly likely.”
“Somewhat?”
“Yeah, maybe somewhat.”

Now I wish I had him give me a number. There’s something a little more comforting in a number. Words are subject to interpretation.

The freezing stung. The rest of disquieting. In my mind I flipflopped between trying to ignore the snipping and prodding that I could sense going on behind me, and intensely concentrating on it to determine what exactly was going on.

This is the same reason I failed miserably at Lamaze.

It was over within 15 minutes, the surgery that is, not either of my births.

Mark took me for a yummy sushi lunch as a treat afterwards, and I spent the rest of the afternoon lying down. I’m feeling uncomfortable, but am not in any real pain. Really, I don’t have much to complain about. So I will stop here.

The stitches have to be taken out in ten days.

Thanks folks, for your support. I see that a lot of you have been checking back here for the update. So there it is. :)
