The inside of my brain looks and feels like the tornado in Wizard of Oz; a gale of swirling air carrying bits of debris, the odd cow, and a witch on a bicycle. From the hodgepodge, this emerges:
- RENO. OMGosh. The architect dropped prelim sketches off to us this week and the three of us spent a couple of hours going through the different variations. Wow. I have much to tell. I just need to sort it out.
- Isn’t it great to get a clean bill of health? I had a long overdue physical yesterday – top and bottom, inside and out. The doctor gave me lots of great news about my BMI, iron, various lipids or somesuch, and told me that my cholesterol was “GREAT.” That is a direct quote. I am very happy it.
- Speaking of storms, there’s a big discussion brewing in the blogosphere about mother bloggers and what they earn from their blogs. (Remember my post here?) Interested? Grab an EXTRA extra large coffee and start by reading this, then this, then this. It’s such an important topic… one that needs to be discussed more fully. I really need more time to think about it some more. I have a post brewing in my head (see tornado analogy above) but it just can’t happen today. And here’s the kicker. I can’t decide, should I or should I not reveal what I earn via the blog? Gah. Do you think this is an important and/or useful bit of information to share?

I had the opportunity to attend a Tweet-Up at Serious Cheese the other day. I love cheese, and mingling, so it made sense to attend. It was a great little event. (Have you ever been to Serious Cheese? I wrote about this neat little cheese shop/lunch counter for SavvyMom awhile back.)
A tweet-up, by the way, is a networking event that’s set up and mostly populated by Twitter users. :)
As I reflect upon what happened at the Tweet-Up I realize how important it is to get out of the house and network. The evening was so full. I feel like so much transpired … before, during, and after the event. I chatted with the Jamie, the owner (who tweets here) and many other lovely people including the charming and funny Caroline Savignac, the Comms Manager at Brookstreet; I bought some pretty amazing (spicy!) Mac & Cheese, and I know I will be back for more; Vicky (who organized it all and blogged about it here) liked my Twitter necklace from Blend Creations and ordered one for herself when she got home (transparency alert – the Blend link is an affiliate), I tried some inspired cheese/jam combos during the Tweet-Up and bought some michaelsdolce strawberry and balsamic jam afterwards (FYI, that shop tweets from here).
It was a good event for me. It stayed with me, because here I am, still thinking about it and sharing what I walked away with. See? Ripple effect.
It’s neat to add up the connections, the transactions (and who knows, future transactions?) that happen at networking events like this. If I had to give one piece of advice to bloggers, business people and entrepreneurs, it’s GET OUT THERE. Networking can be difficult, and it took me awhile to get comfortable with it, but now I know that can walk into a room and do ok.
Speaking of networking events, Shannon and I are planning an Ottawa Brain Drain for April. This will be the fourth (?) installment of a casual networking/infosharing event about topics in social media. Stay tuned!

A quick p.s re: cheap framing. We have had great luck finding secondhand frames at Salvation Army stores and ValVill. Another good place to pick up an inexpensive frame for children’s artwork is Michaels. Did you know you can print off coupons for Michaels? Never shop there without a coupon in hand. Seriously!
