Garlic is messy

Posted by andrea tomkins in: parenting|Recipes and Food

As you can see:

Garlic is messy

I hate peeling garlic. All those sticky little papery bits!

Do you want to hear my special way of peeling garlic? Whether I need one clove or six (like the beef stew I’m making for dinner tonight) I always:

1) Separate the clove from the head of garlic.

2) Slice off a bit of the end where it was attached to the head. (Not the pointy end.)

3) Pop in the microwave for about 15 seconds.

The peels slide right off! Pretty neat eh? And not nearly as messy (Ok, maybe a little. But it’s MUCH BETTER. Trust me on this.)

I roast it in the oven with the skins on, the it just pops out afterwards. Same principal, I’m sure! Roasting really intensifies the flavour too. Love garlic.

I have an even easier one…cut that same edge off…take flat part of your knife and press down hard, peels just pop off and stay together. You just take your clove out.
I really dislike chopping onions…

Mmm… garlic! I bought a Pampered Chef garlic thingy ages ago. I love it since I am a very lazy cook. You put the garlic clove in whole, with peel and all, and push down – voila, out comes nicely pressed garlic!

I do like Giulia, though I bang it with my fist instead of pressing. Garlic needs to be banged, anyway, to let the juices out. :)

I’m with Giulia and Julie. Sometimes I use the press, sometimes I just smash it *g*

Crush it with the edge of your knife! No problems getting it peeled. My house smells like roasted garlic right now as I have roasted cauli soup cookin’!
