a peek inside the fishbowl

This is a continuation of yesterday’s post about a photo hunt our kids did over the weekend. It was such a neat little activity! It kept them busy and engaged for awhile, and the results are kinda sweet.

The photos below were taken by my youngest. I just love them.

Planning a photo hunt in your family? There are a few different ways to do it.

  1. 1) Give the kids a list, that way it becomes more of a scavenger hunt. You can make it as easy or as hard as you want! For example, you can ask them to find something green, something tall, something bumpy, something smooth, something funny… and see where it leads. I bet the results will surprise you.
  2. 2) Give them free reign in a defined area. I asked the girls to go out and shoot outdoors around the house, then come back with ten great photos. That meant they shot a bunch, and then had to really pare it down. I like what happens during that process, it means they have to be self-critical and really think about the results.

If you decide to let your kids do a photo hunt I’d love to see what they come up with! Leave your link in the comments so I can see their work. :)

We were at my in-laws yesterday, sitting around after dinner outside as the sun was about to set. The adults were chatting and the kids were glued to their respective devices so I decided to issue the girls a challenge. The mission: to submit ten great photos… outdoors, no flash, no filters. I promised to upload their ten best (as chosen by them) to the blog. The girls really seemed to enjoy themselves, and it turned out to be a really nice way to keep them busy.

So, as promised, this is the first batch of 10, taken by the eldest using her iPod touch. (I kind of which we’d brought the Samsung. It would have been much better for this kind of thing.)

Don't they look lonely? They need a nice pair of feet to love them.

A little sun for when it gets too dark.

I do love the perspective that kids bring to the table when they’re behind the camera, don’t you?

Gelato! #latergram

It’s worth mentioning that the party favours above are from the Village Quire (SO.MANY.THINGS.) and the gelato was from Truffle Treasures. Pictured is the blood orange variety, which has now become my new favourite. There were many excellent flavours from which to choose and the decision was a difficult one. (Let it be known that normally I don’t indulge in a waffle cone, but this was for a photoshoot for Ottawa Magazine and I had no choice but to oblige!)

Unfortunately, it melted quickly. Fortunately, I had the situation well in hand.
