BOLO recap

By andrea tomkins in Multimedia experiments,Ottawa

Last night I mingled with fellow Ottawa bloggers at BOLO (a.k.a. Blog Out Loud Ottawa). An amazing event which was organized by Lynn from TurtleHead and took place at Raw Sugar on Somerset Ave.

It was fun fun fun.

(Lynn, are we going to do it again next year?)

I was one of a bunch of bloggers who read their posts out loud to the crowd. I enjoyed reading, and really enjoyed hearing what each blogger chose to read.

In my excitement to read I didn’t explain my own particular choice of post. The incident in question happened about eight years ago but has always stuck with me.  FYI: It’s buried rather deep in my archives, written at a time when I hand coded everything myself, and it would be impossible to rebuild those files so I can’t really link to it.

I was going to cut and paste the text into a new post here, but in the spirit of BOLO I thought I should do an audio recording of it instead. So here it is, without further ado, The Maternity Spot, which will  be online until I decide it’s sucking up too much bandwidth. :)

(I really need to invest in a good mike. *sigh*)

p.s. Milan has posted some great pics of the event on the Raw Sugar Facebook page. You can see them by going to the Raw Sugar Facebook Page and scrolling down to the very bottom to the section marked “photos.” Thank you Milan! Lynn posted a smattering too.

Welcome!

By andrea tomkins in Ottawa

Please say hello to the Fishbowl’s newest patron: Chickpea Boutique!

Have you ever been to Chickpea? It is such a sweet little store. Although my girls are older now I still make regular appearances at Chickpea, scouting for baby gifts and ideas for various articles I’m writing/researching about stylin’ gear for wee folks. They carry some truly beautiful clothing, toys, gifts and decor items.

They’re having a birthday party this weekend, and you’re invited! Pop a balloon to receive 15-40% off your purchase. Check out their website for details.

Next time you’re in the ‘hood do check them out. Their stuff is so adorable it *almost* makes me want to have a third baby. :)

Thank you Chickpea, and welcome aboard!

Au naturel AND THEN SOME

By andrea tomkins in Memes/blog awards etc

A couple bloggy friends around town have posted au naturel (that is, makeup free!) photos of themselves. I thought hey, why not? But how about upping the challenge?

How about posting a photo of myself with a makeup-free and unwashed face, bedhead that has not been touched by a hairbrush, while pyjama-clad up against a stark white closet door?

Without further ado I give you …
