a peek inside the fishbowl

The youngest made cookies today! It’s a great little recipe actually, one that she nabbed right off the back of our jar of Kraft peanut butter:

I used to scoff at this recipe, but it actually works… and it’s the fastest recipe in the history of cookie making! All you need is:

  • 1 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg

Heat oven to 325F. Mix ingredients until blended. Roll into 1″ balls. Place 2″ apart on a cookie sheet and flatten with fork before baking. Bake 15 minutes until lightly browned. That’s it!

Day four of March Break

By andrea tomkins in Misc. life

Last night we watched a great documentary film here at Casa Fishbowl called Chasing Ice. Have you seen it? It’s a gorgeous, fascinating, and devastating look at climate change. It’s terrible and beautiful, and it’s on Netflix. You should watch it with your kids. Here’s a peek.

I have had an interesting day so far. I attended the Westfest launch this morning and got to chat with all kinds of interesting people. There’ll be more about that in the March 20 issue of the Kitchissippi Times. :)

It’s a regular work day for me, and Mark has taken the day off to hang out with us. He braved the cold weather to pick us up a special lunch this afternoon from Parma Ravioli. Their meatball sandwiches are a popular item around here, although I had a roasted veggie panini.

What else? Sarah has been working all week on a special project, which I’m really looking forward to sharing here soon. In the meantime, don’t forget to enter my giveaway for Kidsfest tickets. The draw is at noon tomorrow!

We went to the library yesterday and borrowed a stack of books. And then our youngest baked a cake:

Someone has been doing some #MarchBreak baking today. (Hint: It's not me.)

It occurred to me that it might be fun to post a list of things that are fun to do with toddlers and kinder-aged kids over March Break. I think we often forget that kids of a certain age are easily amused, yet sometimes we find it hard to muster the energy to do something new. It doesn’t take much to keep them happy, does it? Things like:

  • Going through the car wash.
  • Baking cookies.
  • Making play doh.
  • Reading a new book together.
  • Skyping with grandma and grandpa! (Maybe they can read a bedtime story together?)
  • Bringing in a plastic tub full of snow from the outside and digging around in it with spoons.
  • Taking a bath, fully dressed. (Our kids thought this was the most hilarious thing EVER.)
  • Going to the pet store.
  • “Camping” in the living room (a.k.a dragging out the sleeping bags, eating marshmallows, and telling stories)

…. are all fun things to do with wee ones. What would you add to the list?

We have a biiiig project going on this week and I think it’s kind of cool. More about that later. :)
