It feels like I’ve been time-travelling. This week has flown by. I started my lighting course at Algonquin. I have a feeling it’s going to be intense. We’re starting off with still photography (which I am thrilled about) but last night I realized that I can’t plug a sync cord into my D70. Anyone out there have an adaptor I can borrow for a couple of months?
I had a couple tough workouts at the gym this week, biked for groceries for two days running and had a community association meeting which ran late. Yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing a cup of coffee with the oh so lovely BeachMama (!) and her two children which I then followed up with the purchase of a lens that I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I have some writing/photo-related deadlines coming up (a couple of which are for my local paper), a meeting, a birthday party to plan and some volunteering to do. Today.
Right now I’m feeling a little wrung out, oddly charged up at the same time. Or maybe it’s just the coffee.
How can it be Friday already?

Over the past few months I’ve learned that there are a lot of guys who follow the Fishbowl, which is strange considering that the audience I picture in my head is made almost entirely of female faces. I have been told by several local moms that it’s actually the husbands who are the biggest readers here. (Yet it’s the women who tend to comment. Dad lurkers, this is you chance to step forward and say hello!)
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it occurs to me that many dads suffer the double-whammy of having to buy something for their wives (if the kids are small) as well as something for their own mothers. It’s twice the pressure! Well dads, this list is for you. Many of these places are local, so take what you will. ;)
My name is Andrea and I live in Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Sunny who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. During the day I work as a freelance writer. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
