weekend passed (warning! photo heavy!)

I can’t believe I am writing about this NOW. It’s THURSDAY for chrissakes, but it was so fun that I feel like I need to commemorate it somehow.
Mark was in Montreal for the weekend at a golf thing. The girls were very sad to see him go, so it was my duty to don my Entertainment Director cap and keep the troops entertained while their beloved dadda was away.
It wasn’t going to be too hard to entertain them. The weather has been simply amazing, and hey, we live in Ottawa, possibly one of the kid-friendliest cities all around! Woot woot Ottawa!
So. This is what we covered:
First: an attempt to view the butterfly exhibit at the Carleton U biology lab. Who would have guessed it would be affected by the strike? Thanks Carleton, for updating your website. I drove clear across town with two excited kids, only to find out the exhibit was cancelled. So we regrouped and aimed our sights on the Experimental Farm. On the way we stopped at the Arboretum. Glory be. It was gorgeous.
The girls like to run and run, and then stop to look at something, and run and run and run. I just took photos. And thankfully didn’t lose them in the foliage once. Okay, maybe just once.
Then we hit the Experimental farm – er, sorry, the Agricultural Museum. We haven’t been there in ages. I’m glad we decided to rectify that. We do love the farm.
Right after this photo was taken, the horse had a huge, er, um, well, let’s just say that the term horse “plop” is a particularly good example of an onomatopoeia.
A few other farm residents:
And then we followed our visit with some breakfast-themed lunch at Baker Street Cafe on Richmond Rd. Surely I don’t need to mention (again!) how delicious it is there.
And then we biked to the Superstore to pick up the ingredients for Rice Krispy squares.
And then we made Rice Krispy squares.
And then we walked ourselves (and our DIY lanterns) to the of the McKellar Fall Festival.
And then we came home and collapsed in a big heap.
When we regained consciousness on Sunday we drove to Carlingwood to buy birdseed. And then we returned to McKellar park and did the the DAYTIME version of the McKellar Fall Festival.
And after a couple hotdogs (a burger for me), popcorn and cotton candy, we spent the rest of the day at Nana and Papa’s house, where I drank a Caesar and did nothing but curl up in a big chair with a stack of newspapers.
I’d say a great weekend overall, don’t you think? I still can’t believe we crammed that all in.
