a peek inside the fishbowl

The reason I first started this blog turned 19 yesterday. (!)

Last night the eldest and I browsed a few past birthday–related posts here on the blog. I tell ya, celebrating 19 years is pretty different. Here’s how it went down.

1) I was up at my usual hour. When she finally woke up I begged her to get dressed and check out the new pastry shop in Westboro. Sadly, it was not open yet.

2) We regrouped and did a bit of shopping at a few of her favourite shops in Wellington Village:

3) We picked up birthday donuts at SuzyQ:

4) … which is right across the way from the LCBO in Hintonburg, where she bought a small bottle of champagne AND got carded, which was very exciting.

5) We picked up the youngest daughter and the three of us drove to the National Gallery, where there were no shenanigans whatsoever:

… and I was glad to hear that I’m not the only one who enjoys the “Forty Part Motet” installation by Janet Cardiff:

6) Then we met Mark at Tavern on the Hill for hotdogs and beverages. Man, I do love that place:

7) … and of course, we poked around the tulips afterward. This is springtime in Ottawa, after all!

8) After we got home, she unwrapped a few small gifts and we enjoyed the aforementioned donuts and champagne:

9) We played a killer round of UNO (note: the birthday girl did not win).

10) With full bellies, we watched Netflix and then went to bed.

I’d call that a pretty nice Ottawa-style birthday celebration.
